The Laugh Track video was a freestyle video, in other words no treatment. We went and shot this with only a basic idea of locations. The artist Droog didn’t have the money for the type of music video that he desired, but we still made it happen. The Laugh Track video was shot in the Williamsburg/Greenpoint aera of Brooklyn over a two day period.
TC (Artist), Carl Weston (DP/Directer) and Justin Ivory (Grip/AC/AD) Trying to make it happen in 3 hours
I gotta say I learn something new every time I shoot a low budget/no budget music video Like: 1.) Never serve alcohol to the extras. 2.) Don’t let the extras do coke while shooting. I also need more than softboxes as my primary lighting source. I need more controllable lights in my kit, I might have to add some lowell dp’s to my kit. Most of this video was shot in 1 evening, we spent about 3 1/2 hours trying to make it happen, it was a crazy shoot.
This was the first time I shot in this type of senario using 5600k daylight balanced lights, you gotta use what you have. There wasn’t a rental budget on this shoot an I own the softboxes. I shot handheld on this one using the canon 5d mark II and cinestyle picture profile. I stayed on the Zeiss ZE 50mm and the 85mm for most of this shoot.
